The format of social media is great. It would be like an online discussion or bulleti
board. I would like to have students
take videos of each other explaining a problem.
This is the modern version of “going to the board”. The pressure, of having others observe you in
the public, is a strong motivator. I
heard students say when being videotaped, “I got to get this right.” My only
regret is all the “bad stuff” on some of the social media sites. There needs to be site just for educational
items

Most Applicable Concepts
I am a secondary math teacher, working in an urban
setting. I believe that all the "cool tools" that I have been
exposed to, will help. I am trying to get started with Classdojo and Edmodo. Students can
use these to post their thoughts and pictures online. Due to time constraints,
and lack of bandwith, some of the tools will be more difficult

Where do I fall on the Technology Integration Matrix
As I listen to the videos of the different classes, it appears that I fall into the Adoption level of the Matrix. I receive an A for Entry level work. A- for Adoption level, C for adaptation. Due to the infrequency of trying the different techniques, I give myself a low grade.in the higher levels of the Matrix I am really impressed by one of the last lessons under goal directed (Transformation.) This was a lesson where the students made their own videos of the Fraction lesson. I believe I have reached close to this level from time to time. I would like to make it to Adaptation before the end of the year. I will make an effort to design lessons that use technology tools on a regular basis.I will create instruction that purposefully integrates technology tools and
provides access to information on community and world issues. I will directs the choice of technology tools but students will use the
tools on their own, and may begin to explore other capabilities of the
tools. I will arange desks and workstations so that multiple students can access technology tools simultaneously.
E-learning: Friend or Foe
E-learning: Friend or Foe
In reading the links that are presented through cake, I was really impressed by the video that discussed digital natives versus digital immigrants. We are working with a group of digital natives. I took a 1 day class where I learned more about how to use my IPad. The next day, I mentioned the different techniques that I had learned in class. One of my students, digital native, knew how to do all the techniques that I, digital immigrant, had learned in class.
ELearning is a big fish, but like all fish there are bones that we must avoid.
Benefits
1. ELearning engages students because it is similar to the electronics that they use during their leisure time
2. ELearning will cut down on paperwork. Students will be able to get more “face time” with the teacher.
Barriers
Biggest barrier is the financial and security aspect of ELearning. Many schools are dealing with limited Bandwidth

new online experience
I am very excited about my online class that I am teaching and the one that I am taking. I really didn't know that I could send email to my students. I now plan on having my studens post common questions that they may have about certain concepts. This is giving me more opportunity to observe the learning process, both seeing it in others and in me.
